English Language Arts

The English Department at Kelly High School has designed to develop a curriculum to enrich the language skills of all students through writing development and practice, exposure to quality literature, and consistent practice in all areas of communicative arts. The Language Arts department will create a structured and challenging environment which empowers all students with the literacy skills needed to succeed in postsecondary and in a global society. We will strive to help all students improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by providing differentiated, engaging, and multi modal instruction in order to develop critical thinking skills. The Language Arts department will work toward engaging students in the explorations and analysis of language and literature through rigorous and equitable skills based curriculum. We want to inspire students to appreciate language and literature, to understand the necessity of reading and writing as a lifelong learner, to value inquiry, and to deepen their knowledge through active participation in the world around them.
